Herpes zoster

Shingles is an inflammation of the skin’s nerve endings. It causes nerve pain, fever, a red, painful rash and infectious blisters on the skin, usually on the chest and belly. The virus that causes shingles, ‘Herpes zoster’, can become activated when the immune system is low. See also Immunity.
