Varicose Veins develop when blood gathers in veins. Vein walls stretch and weaken until they eventually push outwards, creating a swelling (‘varicose’). Obesity, constipation, pregnancy, nutrient deficiencies, and a diet high in saturated fat and sugar, and low in fibre, can contribute. Varicose veins can lead to leg ulcers. They are a commonly inherited tendency. See also Ulcers (Leg).
