Green tea leaves contain active phytonutrient polyphenols called ‘catechins’. These bioflavonoids have potent free radical-fighting properties and protect fragile fats against oxidation (rancidity). Catechins have been shown to have 20 times more antioxidant power than vitamin E. A particular type of catechin, called ‘epigallocatechin gallate’, may also help the body make its own antioxidant enzymes. Green tea helps promote urine flow through the kidneys, thereby helping regulate water balance and weight management.
