Apples are eaten for their crisp, sweet flesh. They contain fibre, vitamins and minerals and give sweetness and subtle flavour to food and drink. A 100g portion of eating apple contains 1.8g of fibre and 5GLs (glycaemic load) units. Apple pectin helps maintain balanced cholesterol levels, healthy bowel movement and supports heavy metal detox. It is used as a ‘gelling’ agent in jam making and to thicken drinks.
