Beta glucan is a natural form of soluble dietary fibre. It is found in the cell wall of baker’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), wholegrains and mushrooms, such as oyster and agaricus blazei. Mushrooms and yeast contain a form of beta glucan called beta-(1,3/1,6)-d-glucan. This beta glucan helps support healthy immunity, especially when challenged, such as during illness, exercising, dieting, over-work, after antibiotics or when sensitive to allergens. It is also ideal for helping maintain healthy lung function and for general immune support. Wholegrains contain another form of beta glucan called beta-(1,3/1,4)-d-glucan, which help maintain normal cholesterol levels, thereby supporting healthy heart function.
