Biotin is involved in making fat and protein and in breaking down carbohydrates. It is important for body fat metabolism, for healthy skin, hair, appetite, muscle function, sleep, nervous system, liver and kidney function, male sex glands, and bone marrow, and for balanced energy, mood, and haemoglobin and cholesterol levels. It works with vitamins B2, B5, B6 and B12, folic acid and protein. Some drugs deplete levels. Rancid fat inactivates it.
