Co-enzyme Q10 is involved in making energy by being an essential part of mitochondria (the cell’s energy-making part). It acts as an antioxidant with the help of vitamin E, protecting fragile fats both in cell and mitochondrial walls and blood against oxidation (rancidity). Co-enzyme Q10 also protects cholesterol, especially ‘bad’ LDL, against oxidation. It may be helpful for healthy heart and arteries, blood pressure, immune system function, gums, weight and athletic performance. Levels fall with age.
