DHA is an omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acid found in oily fish and fish oils. It is particularly important for healthy brain and eye development and function, and during pregnancy. DHA is also converted in the body from ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), an omega 3 essential fatty acid, via EPA. ALA cannot be made by the body, so it must be present in the diet. ALA is also found in flax seed oil. DHA can convert back to EPA.
