EPA is an omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acid found in oily fish and fish oils. It is also converted in the body from ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), an omega 3 essential fatty acid, albeit slowly and inefficiently. ALA is also found in flax seed oil. ALA cannot be made by the body, so it must be present in the diet. EPA converts in the body to DHA, albeit slowly and inefficiently. EPA supports healthy immune system function, heart and arteries.
