Concentrated in the lungs and liver, glutathione makes the body’s own antioxidant enzyme, ‘glutathione peroxidase’, with the help of selenium. It helps break down excess insulin, carry amino acids in and out of cells and re-use vitamin C. It supports the liver with detoxifying toxins, especially pesticides. It helps control hormone and prostaglandin (a hormone-like substance) levels and support immune function. Smoking, illness, alcohol, medicines and excessive exercise deplete levels. Reduced glutathione is the best form.
