Iodine is important for healthy thyroid function - around 75% of iodine is found in the thyroid gland. Iodine forms part of the thyroid hormones ‘thyroxine’ (T4) and ‘triiodothyronine’ (T3). These help regulate metabolism and help influence growth. They support nervous system function, circulation, muscles and metabolism of nutrients. Some drugs reduce absorption.
