L-cysteine helps neutralise harmful excess free radicals. With vitamin B5, it makes co-enzyme A, which is important for making energy. It binds to heavy metals and helps their removal. L-cysteine helps make fatty acids, alpha lipoic acid, antioxidant glutathione and taurine. It can be made in the body from l-methionine and serine and can change to glucose when needed. L-cysteine forms cysteine, which helps hold proteins together, such as insulin. It may help support healthy joint function.
