Manganese is found in bones, the liver, kidneys and pituitary gland. It is an essential co-enzyme involved in fat, protein, carbohydrate and energy metabolism. It forms part of the body’s internal antioxidant enzyme called ‘superoxide dismutase’ (SOD) and helps regulate normal blood sugar levels. Manganese is important for healthy cartilage, bone growth and development, reproductive, nerve and immune systems function, and during pregnancy.
