According to a new review, carried out at Salus University, dietary supplements, particularly those delivering lutein and zeaxanthin, have positive effects on eye health.
The researcher conducted a search for studies about supplementation and visual health, including conditions such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). After examining the data, the report concluded that studies of the effects of dietary supplementation, primarily preparations containing lutein and zeaxanthin, have demonstrated improvements in contrast sensitivity and visual performance under glare conditions.
It also reports that results from other studies generally support the conclusion that dietary supplements including these nutrients significantly decrease the occurrence of AMD and the development of cataracts.
