Starflower (Borago officinalis) is so named because of its star-shaped, blue-purple flowers. Starflower or borage seed oil is high in GLA - more so than evening primrose oil. GLA is an important polyunsaturated fatty acid, which converts to hormone-like substances called prostaglandins. These help regulate hormone levels and other important body functions in the heart, brain, liver, skin, kidneys, nerves, lungs and immune system. These functions include balancing cholesterol levels, blood pressure, body temperature and mood, and supporting healthy skin.
