Vitamin K is stored in the liver and is found in dark green, leafy vegetables. It is important for normal blood clotting, menstruation, building and maintaining healthy bones (particularly in older people), and supporting a healthy heart, arteries, veins and capillaries. Newborn babies are given vitamin K to prevent haemorrhagic disease. Applied to skin in gels, vitamin K supports healthy-looking veins and capillaries, especially on the legs and face. There are two types of vitamin K in the diet, vitamin K1 (phytomenadione/phytonadione) and K2 (menaquinone).
